So I am going to Aralis, but would also be in favor of saving the environment and having company on the drive. Therefore, do any New York residents wish to carpool? I have a car and can pick people up at the New Haven train station if there are carless folks who wish a ride. Alternately, I can chip in for gas and buy people dinner if there are those who are driving from New York already and don't mind making a brief stop in New Haven to acquire me. My stuff is not much, and my timing is flexible.

EDIT: Also, does anyone have something like a a black motorcycle helmet that I can borrow on Friday? Blue or red would also work, black is ideal.

Casting/Costuming Call (of Cthulhu)

[info]alberteqx and I are making a video as a final project for our Death and the Afterlife class. We're sending out a casting call: if there are any among our wonderfully talented friends who don't mind spending an hour or two acting, do drop us a line. We will love you.

There several scenes in particular we need actors for:
-Roman guys standing around arguing in a Brothel
-Roman citizenry watching or decrying a female gladiatorial fight
-A public beheading

And if anyone has some costuming/props we could borrow, you would have our gratitude and possibly cookies. They are as follows:
-Simple tunics or togas for Roman wear
-Roman armor or something reasonably resembling it
-Roman accouterments, ie. jewelry, headgear, imperious-looking objects, etc.
-Fake blood etc.

We may do some filming in and around the weekend of the May Day Ball; to be scheduled later.

EDIT: just comment here if you may be able to help, I'll post again or email people individually once we've got more planses!

Procon madness

So if you haven't read my latest email to the FGS list, go and do so.

Now that you have, I want opinions: We have two options for Saturday during the day.

1) We can stay in SB, and avoid the first floor. The other group is apparently made of professors and board members, so I'm not kidding around here: first floor off limits, and there would be problems if we started wandering in. Boffer Tourney is likely moving to Sunday, so all the Saturday day events (tabletops, beads and bpal, boardgames) can in fact be run in classrooms.

2) The second and third floor of Sayles. Has classroom spaces, and as far as I know not much else, same as SB basement and second floor. A dance group is on the first floor and auditorium area, so we can't use there and there may be music playing, but they're less likely to freak out if our presence is felt. Disadvantage is that we have to move stuff up to Smitty B at 6. Most events are done by 6 anyway, the main issue is the potluck, which we would have to move to SB.

So lay it on me, what do you think we should do?

I spent today and yesterday sewing instead of doing my school work, but it was worth it. My Deva Victrix costume is done, in all its glory, and I'm really far prouder of it than is reasonable. Now it is time for sleep.

These last few days have been uncommonly busy. I've shopped something like 12 classes, and finally have it down to four or five. Fortunately, most of the propsective courses fell pretty easily into the "cool" or "unbearable" categories once I went to them, so it wasn't hard to choose.

The activities fair went well, despite the initial "sorry you're not on the list even though you registered." We ended up in a nice location and got lots of names. First Friday was also fun, I learned to play Mah Jong from Lyla and got to play Settlers of Catan with a couple of new kids. Must remember the importance of clay next time.

I keep having this urge to ask people if I can get a witness. It's weird.

School

Tomorrow will be the start of my last year of undergrad education. Oddly enough, the weird feeling is not "wait, college is gonna be over?" but instead "wait, I'm still in college?" I'm living off campus, I spent the summer doing research and looking at grad schools and PhD programs, and a lot of my friends are out of college already. Going back to classes feels like someone suggested I head over to the high school and work on my french.

But be that as it may, I'm getting ready. I cleaned my room, organized all my old school stuff, and now I'm looking at what classes to shop. I'm already taking two Chem classes plus research, and advanced genetics looks really interesting, Somash help me.

I have just discovered a store in Providence Place mall, that I had never seen before but is closing in two weeks. It's on the second floor on the end of the mall that has the Cheesecake Factory, and has lots of stuff that I as a gamer/larper found very cool. There's lots of asian themed clothing and props, as well as swords, statuettes of dragons and of greek figures, incence, pillows and imitation bonsai trees, all kinds of stuff - all heavily discounted since they're closing the store soon. So to you, my larping friends, I say 'go forth! and check it out!' If there is sufficient intrest, perhaps there could even be a group originating from 65 to go on a raid, followed by a movie or somesuch.

Why oh why does the ond of the few nights a year that I get insomnia have to be the night before my chem final? Everything sucks and should die. See, it says so right here:

Presented my paper in orgo class today, it went pretty well. I got to talk about continuous chromatography, and experimenting with rat brains, both of which are reasonably cool things to present on. Now I just have a lab report, a final project, and three exams. But in two weeks the school year will be over. It's so exciting.

I have so many things to do that I will never get them all done. The trick is to convince myself to do some of them rather than throwing up my hands and going to see a movie or something. =P

My chem teacher, who was supposed to give us back our research papers on Monday, has delayed doing so yet again. So now I have to wait until Friday to find out if i'm doing well or terribly in the class. Bother.

It seems my laptop does not in fact have a badass enough graphics card to play Neverwinter Nights 2. I can't decide if I should go out and get one now, or wait til the summer when I'll actually have time to play the game and not have to worry about finals. Does anyone know what a shiny new graphics card goes for these days?

Procon was fun, I really liked the social system in Widening Gyre, and playing a cross between Guinan and Cupid in A Second Dawn. I also much enjoyed playing an enthusiastic/slightly batty archaeologist in Iralith's tabletop. Thanks to everyone for running things and generally being awesome.

Now I go back to schoolwork, what with the midterms and the papers and the hey hey.

I had a dream last night that my sister gave me two tiny pigs for my birthday. They were about an inch long and made of fire, or else continually burning, the way a demon or imp might be. They kept setting small fires and eating flammable things, and getting bigger. I tried dousing them in a jar of water, but it turned out it was actually whiskey and they expanded to fill the jar. As the dream ended I had them in the kitchen sink, desperately trying to keep them submerged in water to put them out, and they kept growing. It was kindof disturbing.

I'm home for the weekend, which is nice and relaxing. My house is full of sofas and heating - much unlike, say a crazy february larp. Guys: if you survive to read this, you are silly and I'm glad you didn't freeze to death.

I went shopping with my dad and got new shoes. Hopefully these black semi-casual shoes will work out better than the other 4 or 5 pairs of black semi-casual shoes I've bought over the years. It's difficult to find a pair that are formal enough to wear to a nice restaurant and yet won't cause me to break my ankles or develop blisters on the walk up and down college hill to get to and from said nice restaurant.
